It is recommended that yearly inspections be carried out by a registered Inspector, especially in the case of a property comprising of untreated structural timbers.
Prospective buyers are advised to insist that the seller furnish them with a Clearance certificate before taking ownership. In the advent of live infestation certain corrective action would be required. This might require a ceiling level fumigation (floor fumigation) where borers are found to be active in flooring or sub-floor timbers of the building. An infestation in the roof timbers will require a “Tent Fumigation” where tarpaulins are pulled over the entire structure. In both cases Methyl bromide gas is applied at the rate of 48g per cubic meter of free space for a minimum period of 24 hrs.
In the case of Subterranean Termites the affected area must be treated with a registered Termite poison.
